Position Announcement: Executive Director
The City of Lakes Community Land Trust is seeking an Executive Director who is passionate about our mission to create community ownership that preserves affordability and inclusivity. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership, leads fundraising, and oversees the organization’s finances and operations.
The CLCLT was founded in 2002 through a collective and committed effort by Minneapolis residents and neighborhood associations to create and preserve affordable homeownership in Minneapolis. The CLCLT acquired Neighborhood Housing Services of Minneapolis (NHSM) in 2015, which still operates as a separate entity within the CLCLT. In 2019, the CLCLT added the Minneapolis Commercial Land Trust Initiative program to its work. That initiative spun off to become its own entity in 2022. Additionally, the CLCLT owns a subsidiary Real Estate LLC.
The CLCLT owns its office building in the Harrison neighborhood in North Minneapolis along with four residential rental units near the office. The CLCLT has grown to be the largest affordable homeownership Community Land Trust in Minnesota and the third largest nationally with over 355 CLCLT homes in trust. Including over 120 successful resales, the CLCLT has assisted over 475 low- and moderate-income households into CLCLT homeownership over the past 18 years.
The Executive Director leads a staff of seven full-time employees and reports to the Board of Directors.
LOCATION: Minneapolis, MN
SALARY: $110,000 - $130,000 depending on qualifications

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership (25%)
• Provide vision and leadership for the organization’s future.
• Provide strategic direction for the organization in collaboration with the Board of Directors, developing and implementing work plans, and bringing plans from vision to implementation.
• Ensure the organization’s long-range strategy achieves its mission.
• Lead the promotion and development of innovative strategies to improve program effectiveness and cohesiveness, collaborating with leadership and staff in program areas.
External Relations, Policy & Fundraising (30%)
• Serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate for the CLCLT, sharing the story of the CLCLT in collaboration with homeowners served by the organization and its programs in a compelling way across a diversity of funders and other stakeholders.
• Act as an advocate for the CLCLT, CLCLT Homeowner Community, Minneapolis community, and greater CDC community.
• Build collaborative partnerships with CLCLT homeowners, public and private funders, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.
• Raise funds, leverage current resources, and develop an active donor base that increases the sustainability of the CLCLT.
• Strengthen the organization’s financial base through identifying and pursuing new sources of earned revenue.
Financial and Operational Leadership (20%)
• Provide strong financial leadership by developing and adhering to budgets and ensuring sound financial practices.
• Oversee the general management and administration of the organization’s operations, including the development of progressive systems and processes to support operational excellence.
• Provide strong stewardship and management of CLCLT’s current gifts and assets in collaboration with the board.
Staff Leadership (10%)
• Support CLCLT staff and foster a positive culture throughout the organization to advance the CLCLT’s mission and vision.
• Mentor and develop an innovative, achievement-oriented, and ethical management team and staff.
• Create a work environment that embraces diversity, is committed to ongoing learning, and is dedicated to using outcomes to drive work.
Board Relations (10%)
• Work with the Board Chair and Executive Committee in recruiting board and committee members who are passionate about the mission and able to contribute to CLCLT’s success.
• Assist the CLCLT Board of Directors in setting organizational goals and strategies and ensure that these goals/strategies are properly prioritized.
• Facilitate cross-functional communication, partnership, and accountability by advising board members, keeping the board informed, and translating the strategic vision set by the board into tactical and operational work.
• Create avenues for connection and engagement across incoming and existing board members.
• Assess board member competencies to utilize board time, skills, and talent most effectively.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Interpersonal and Cultural
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including public speaking, consensus building and the ability to initiate community involvement efforts and run community meetings.
• Public speaking experience with comfort and confidence speaking with groups of all sizes.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Deep understanding of poverty and how it impacts individuals, households, and communities.
• A demonstrated awareness of how race and culture intersect with every aspect of our mission.
• Ability to interact with persons from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to raise funds from government and private foundations.
• Effective organizational, time management and administrative skills, including the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
• Advanced non-profit financial management skills.
• Proven record of successful fund development from public, private, corporate, and foundation sources
• Demonstrated ability as an excellent oral and written communicator and in building and maintaining strong community relationships.
• Ability to manage time, priorities, and resources effectively in a fluid and fast-paced environment.
• Must be effective at delegation, providing clear performance expectations to subordinates.
• Must possess significant attention to detail.
• Demonstrated success in working with nonprofit Boards of Directors.
• Recognized as a strategic thinker.
• Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice in general, racial equity, and affordable housing.
• Knowledge of the Minneapolis community organization environment.
• Demonstrated success in working with local government entities and in influencing public policy.
• Understanding of the community land trust model a plus.
• Experience related to community-based economic development, non-profit management, or real estate.
• Knowledge of economic, political, and social dynamics of urban neighborhoods.
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Power Point) applications.
• Must have personal transportation available for use.
