a listing of not-for-profit associations,
organizations, and mutual assistance and fraternal groups in the
state of Minnesota that primarily serve communities of color. Threre
is a searchable
online version which contains all of the information

Family & Children’s
Service (FCS). Offers
many programs and events that are open for participation. They
also go “on the road” to neighborhood meetings,
community festivals, conferences and other events where they
can make a difference in people’s lives. On their site
there is a list of services and events that you and your family
can benefit from. |

Family
Means provides an array of counseling,
education and support so individuals and families can thrive during
each stage of life, and believes a family consists of two or more
people, whether living together or apart, related by blood, marriage,
adoption
or commitment to care for one another. |

HOURCAR. A
non profit organization that buys, insures, and maintains a fleet
of member-shared cars. HOURCAR takes on all the responsibilities
of owning the vehicles, including paying for fuel. HOURCARs are
parked in hubs near members’ homes and workplaces. Members
make HOURCAR reservations online or by phone, and pay monthly
dues and car usage fees. You pay only for what you use! |

Keep
it Local. A
one stop internet shop for things from autos to buying and
selling goods. Keep it local is an online shopping site that
lists areas throughout the state of Minnesota. |

3-1-1. Need to report a broken street light? Is there
a stray dog roaming your neighborhood? Do you just want a question
about the City of Minneapolis answered? Minneapolis 311 can help. Just
call 3·1·1 weekdays from 7:00 AM to 11:00
PM and a 311 agent will assist you. Minneapolis
311 is part of an ongoing effort to make Minneapolis more accessible
to people who live, work and enjoy the city and its resources. |

Community Education. Here
you can learn skills that will enhance you in many different
ways, from learning how to do simple repairs around your
house to the basics of financial management to resume writing
and skill building for better jobs in the future. In addition,
they also provide physical fitness activities for you and
your family to enjoy. Courses are offered at various schools,
as well as online. Costs and locations may vary.

The
Minneapolis Urban League is a minority, community-based organization
that has served Minneapolis since 1926. Each year,
over 20,000 people look to the Urban League for assistance
in overcoming barriers that prevent them from accessing quality
employment, housing, education, social services, and health care. |

The
Minnesota Minority Encouragement Program (MMEP) provides
programs and services to the community, parents, educators,
and
students.
Through
parental
involvement,
summer enrichment, and professional development, each program provides
tools for students of color to advance successfully through the
school system. It is through the collaborative efforts of the schools,
communities, businesses, policymakers, and organizations that MMEP
can serve students of color. |

involved with your local community/recreational center. There
are many scattered throughout Minneapolis, offering events,
tips, and opportunities for you and your children year round.

Life Skills Center can
provide you wil jok skill training in partnership with the
Minnesota Workforce Center and MFIP (MN Family Investment Act)
and Dislocated Worker Partner clients, these classes can enhance
your career. Regular scheduelled offerings include: Technology
Equipment Training on 24 computers, Mastering the PC and Multi-media
Accessories for the Workforce; Rule III Childcare/Infant-Toddler
CPR & First Aid; Medical Terminology for the Health Care and
Dentistry Fields; as well as general Office Assistant Training.

Reuse Center

Reuse Center. Offers
low cost reusable building materials that have been donated
by individuals and manufacturers' surplus. You can save a bundle

Neighborhood Housing Services. Offers a three-hour
course on educating new homeowners about the financial
opportunities and responsibilities of their new homes and

a smart, one-stop approach to screening families for public
programs including health care, child care, tax credits,

Resource Centers. Provides residences with extensive,
high quality and individualized assistance with home improvement
projects and home improvement loans. Assistance is provided
at no cost. Locations in Northeast and South Minneapolis.

LSS
Financial Services. Combines housing education
with budget counseling, the financial counselors will assist families
with a wide variety of housing issues, including pre-purchase, post-purchase,
foreclosure and delinquency problems. LSS Financial counselors are
certified in foreclosure prevention, homeowner education and counseling,
and

Foreclosure Prevention Program. Twin Cities Habitat
For Humanity provides counseling, advocacy, referrals to additional
